Most people think of the market as a lively place to buy fresh produce, enjoy the atmosphere, and meet friends.

Little did we know that today, in 2012 our leadership would bring us recognition as one of the premier small city public markets in the nation.  This success has posed a dilemma:  if our building were nothing more than a market, a place to buy and sell food products, we could charge rent sufficient to maintain the property and pay the bills. But as a destination hub, with a mission to serve the community far beyond providing a few market stalls, we cannot expect our vendor rent to support our efforts.

We are a year round public market, with winter as well as summer expenses, and a commitment to be one of the key links in rebuilding Genesee County.  People refer to us as one of the jewels of our area. Part of being that jewel is to lead, on a local, state, and national level, in demonstrating that a public market can play a major role in the economic and social revitalization of a proud community.
